Anyone happen to have done the rear wheel bearings on the AWDs? Chilton's isn't very descriptive, of course, and I can't seem to find it in Mitchell1. I'm hoping that I don't have to remove the axle completely and that I only have to take the hub off of the spindle itself, but I dunno. From what I gathered: Remove the wheel Remove the brake assembly Take off the dust cap Take off the spindle castle nut Pop the hub off and change the bearing(s) Reassemble the entire contraption using a pulley system, beer, and cursing.

Sounds like just the hub, but I don't know!

There's an inner and outer bearing in the rear. They have to be pressed out and pressed in. The easiest way to do it would be to remove the trailing arm and take the rest apart on the bench.

If only I had a bench. I suppose it would be possible just to swap for some new hubs, even though they're $93.00 a piece? Save a lot of time I'm thinking rather than having to dismantle absolutely everything press out and press in the new bearings.

Brought my car down to the local do-it-yourself car wash. $.50 Tuesdays FTW. Used Mother's Clay Bar, Mother's Carnuba Cleaner Wax, the California blade (which is awesome), some Armor All Tire Cleaner, and Armor All Tire Cleaner. Turned out pretty good. Hell of a lot better then it was with all the dirt on it from the parking lot. Here's the after. On the left is where I didn't use any of the clay bar to show the difference using the bar makes. Take in mind, though, the hood has a ton of rock chips in it, but you can definitely tell the difference between the two. This shot is of nearly the same angle. Right side is waxed and ready to go, the left side still needs to be waxed. The spray that comes with the clay bar, Mother's Showtime Instant Detailer, does give it quite a shine, but you must make sure to wipe it all off while it's still wet. If you let it dry, it's a bitch to get it to come off. I'm also a sucker for super waxed windows, of course, using regular body wax isn't going to get the job done, so I got some Rain X as well. Take that rain! Bah hahahaha! I'm just excited to see the stuff work, even though I know it works pretty damn well. Rain just sheets off, no need for wipers. Not even kidding. So, she's all ready to go for the night. And from what I've heard it's going to rain up here. After I spent a good two hours doing a semi-good job at waxing and detailing.

Last night I was driving on the highway and came across a work zone labeled 40 MPH with another sign of BUMP. So, naturally, I slowed down to 40. Only to hit the damn bump, which is more of an f'ing mountain of quicksand, and bottomed out. Badly. Next morning, I go to start my car, starts fine, but the temperature damn near peaks. Turns out my coolant's gone. Most of it anyway. Refill the coolant, starts and idles fine but with a loud grinding coming from the bell housing. Probably just rocks...I hope. Push in the clutch to check it out and the car dies. I'm thinking throwout bearing. Anyone got any input as to what might be going on? And, to top it all off for that morning, AAA took over three hours to drive twenty minutes. FAIL. Yesterday, was shit...but on the plus side, there were a lot of hot tourists and foreigners at Fisherman's Picnic in Grand Marais. Bangin'.

Bad throwout bearings sound like skateboard wheels spinning.
